Cor Schaap – Impressionist painter
Cor Schaap grew up in a fishing family and has carried the sea with him from a young age. The coast forms not only his backdrop but also the constant source of inspiration for his work. In his modern impressionist paintings, he translates the atmosphere, light, and movement of the coastal landscape into his own recognizable impression.
The compositions in his recent work increasingly remain deliberately open and sketchy. Backgrounds are not fully filled in, details are missing or merely hinted at. This creates room for imagination: the viewer can fill in for themselves exactly what is being depicted. The work has a poetic, atmospheric feel — light, soft, and suggestive. The feeling of the moment is more important than the exact form.
The paintings by Cor Schaap are included in the collection of Galerie Gabriëls in The Hague, a renowned gallery that has represented professional painters since 1974. ( > artweb.shop )
